Random Thoughts Thursday XXII

By , September 13, 2012 6:19 am
  • I was really surprised to get this in the mail yesterday. Good thing I did. Data was being a whiny little biznatch about not having “all three medals like he should.” All joking aside, I casually mentioned not receiving one to the PR contact, Jessica, and she said she would work on it and asked for my address. Then it showed up!

  • Did anyone register for the Chicago Half Marathon during the blitz on Tuesday? I got in and saw that pricing was at $35 and told myself NO. I have learned my lesson in signing up for races too far in advance. Pricing is 20% off through tomorrow!
  • Steven came up with a schweet new logo for FakeMeats.com and is debuting it at the end of the month!  I am really excited about the new logo, and inspired that he thought it up on his own. Steven is MUCH MORE creative than me. Anyway, I’m not showing you the logo today (muahahaha) but wanted to show you our new “about us” flier… because I think the picture of us with our little big friend is hilarious. What is even more funny is that we don’t know if that’s a llama or alpaca.

  • I broke my super bright headlamp with a million LEDs (on the left). We ordered a new one (on the right) and it is not as bright. Any recommendations for an ultra bright headlamp?

  • I have been doing a lot of photo editing on my phone lately. I am not sure whether it is exciting that I can do this on my phone, or sad that I have been using it instead of Photoshop.

  • I cannot wait for the workday to be over so I can start thinking about Saturday’s 50K. I am going to packet pickup tomorrow with a running club friend. I sometimes skip pickup if I can, but I am hoping that seeing some race info in person will make it stick better. Also, Kovas and I are going to start the race together! I told him he can ditch me when I get too slow or too schmelly, whichever happens first.

  1. Which photo program are you using? I’m always disappointed that my phone photos aren’t as vibrant as I’d like.

Jessica ROCKS! I’m so glad that you got the Windy City Challenge medal too!

I’m so excited for YOUR 50K! LOL! Totally true. You’re gonna rock it and I can’t wait to hear about it. I’m in the living vicariously thru others phase of “training” and recovery!

  2. Pete B says:

Darn, I missed out on the $35 pricing. Oh well. Good luck in the 50k. That’s awesome. Congrats at even taking on the challenge. It should be an unforgettable experience.

  3. Kelly says:

I wish I got in on the half blitz. I’m kicking myself over that.

  4. If I couldn’t edit pictures on my phone, I wouldn’t be able to do it. I tried learning photoshop once. It didn’t go so well.

    • kilax says:

It’s really NOT intuitive! I only learned it from trial and error. And I try to teach my husband stuff and it’s a bit of a disaster!

  5. Marcia says:

Yay for the extra bling! You earned it! It’s a good thing I didn’t see that price. I wouldve been tempted. I vowed I’m not doing that race again…unless my arm is twisted really hard.

  6. I wanted to jump on the bandwagon and sign up for next year, but it’s too early for me to commit. My cousins both said they’d do it again, but maybe this means a different race instead of this exact same one, so I’m waiting it out. Plus, I have a friend’s wedding that is still TBD late summer. Think I’ll have to cough up the extra cash and wait it out a little longer.

  7. Michel says:

    Woot! Have fun with Kovas!!

  8. kandi says:

Yay! You got your medal!! I’m sure Data was thrilled.
$35 for a half is an awesome deal!! I probably would have registered.
I wondered if you were talking about Kovas in your email the other day. That’s cool you’ll have a buddy for a while!

  9. Erin says:

$35?? I didn’t even look because I didn’t realize it would be that good of a deal. I always put off registering for this race (although that worked out well for me this year) and then I always end up signing up anyway. Oh well.

Also, I’m glad the PR rep got you your medal! You totally deserved it.

    What happened to your headlamp?

    • kilax says:

I dropped my headlamp on the floor and the part that holds the strap broke off. We tried to glue it back together but the piece was so small it didn’t work well!

  10. Emily says:

I considered setting my alarm and computer to try to sign up for the Chicago Half at 7:00 AM for half price… but am holding myself back. I’ve gotten myself into trouble for committing myself to races too far in advance. So I’m justifying that the extra flexibility later on is worth paying a little more in registration fees.

To be really honest, with so many other half marathons to choose from, I’m not sure I’d run the Chicago Half again! Logistically it was so stressful! The downtown races are much easier to navigate!

I emailed Jessica to ask about the Windy City Challenge medal, too – thanks for the tip! Fingers crossed!

    • kilax says:

It was stressful to get to! Thanks again for driving!

What did you find out about the medal?

Britt got free entries to both and got her medal. She said she thought you had to go online and fill out a separate form!

  11. Maggie says:

Some of the people in my running club use knuckle lights (http://www.knucklelights.com/) and they are SUPER BRIGHT. Probably because you have two of them vs. just one for a headlamp. But even just one of them is pretty dang bright.

I didn’t sign up for the Chicago Half because I am already registered for the North Country Trail Half two weeks before and I’ve learned my lesson about doing too many races too close together, and I know now that I do not enjoy races as training runs. My goal for 2013 is at least 4 weeks between races. Plus I’m also trying to be pickier about the races I do, and while the Chicago Half was a good race I didn’t loooove it.

  12. ChezJulie says:

    Data is a champion.

I like your new Fake Meats flier and look forward to seeing Steven’s logo!

  13. Pam says:

A HM for $35? I’d have been on that like stink on s#!@!!!

I’ve been using picmonkey.com for photo editing. I really like it. Photoshop is way over my head.
