Random Thoughts Thursday XXX

By , January 17, 2013 6:27 am
  • No matter what cheerful ringtone I put on my work phone, I still feel anxious to answer it when it rings unexpectedly.
  • I had the chance to stock up on some items at Whole Foods on Sunday. Before he said anything else to me, the cashier asked, “How long have you been vegan?” Am I that obvious? Ha ha, with a cart full of Teese, vegan ice cream, vegan yogurt, vegan chocolate… you get the idea… I think I am quite obvious. What does your cart say about you?
  • I have been anxious to try vegan yogurt! I bought a vanilla flavored one made with almond milk and quite like it. I don’t think I will make a point of having it in the house though (but it’s a fun treat).

  • I like tea, but damn, do I ever think tea bags look gross. Even when I have a nice little holder to put them in. Eww. Does anyone else think this?

  • I am going to make a bold assumption and say that a white button down shirt is probably a staple clothing item in both men and women’s closets. So, then why is the one I have all floppy and weird? Ugh…

Race morning / Anjolee Jewelry Giveaway WINNER

By , November 3, 2012 7:56 am

How is it that I turn in to a zombie race morning?

Okay, maybe not exactly a zombie – I am not craving human flesh. But the alarm goes off and my first thought is usually, “Why did I sign up for this race? I just want to sleep in!” Even for big races that I have been training for… I sometimes have these thoughts.

And the race I am doing today doesn’t even start until 9:00 am. Ha! Granted, we were up until close to 1:00 am. Anyway…

Do any of you pop out of bed a bundle of energy race morning? Or do you stumble out zombie-style?

This probably has to do with the fact that I usually sleep poorly the night before a race, and my body just wants more sleep when the alarm goes off.

The winner of the Anjolee Jewelry Giveaway is #9, Amanda –  TooTallFritz. Amanda, please email me at kilax@ilaxstudio.com to claim your prize! Thanks to everyone who entered!

Anjolee Jewelry Giveaway

By , October 30, 2012 11:46 am

It seems like the majority response to last Thursday’s post was that the gift of jewelry does not get old. Ha ha ha. So! I have a jewelry giveaway for you. It is not the bird necklace from Thursday’s post (I will save that for a later giveaway) – but rather, something sparkly from Anjolee!

Erin at Loop Looks sported a pair of their earrings yesterday and clued me in that they were hosting reviews/giveaways! I hadn’t heard of their site before – which is probably a good thing, as I was spending time on it, drooling over the diamond pendants, some multi-colored gemstone bracelets and diamond hoop earrings. And since every piece is custom made, you can choose your metal type, diamond size, quality and length.

The winner of the giveaway will get to pick one of the five options in silver with cubic zirconias below!

From L to R: 1 Three Stone Hoop Earrings, 2 Bezel Set Round Stud Earrings, 3 Offset 3 Stone Pendant, 4 Surrounded by Sparkle Pendant, and 5 Classic Three Prong Studs (click on links to see larger).

Anjolee Jewelry Giveaway Rules

  1. One reader will win their choice of item 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Each item can be customized, as mentioned above, but I am not sure of the limitations and will work out the details with the winner.
  2. Required to enter the giveaway: vist the Anjolee site and tell me your favorite item!
  3. For a second entry: like the Anjolee Facebook page and leave me a comment letting me know you did.
  4. For a third entry: tell me your birthday and birthstone… and if you like your birthstone.
  5. This giveaway is open until 5:00 PM CST on Friday, November 2.  I will announce the winner on Saturday, November 3.
  6. This giveaway is open to US residents.

Does the gift of jewelry ever get old?

By , October 25, 2012 10:25 pm

For women, anyway?

Please answer no.

Erin and I hit up the JF&A Jewelry, Fashion and Accessories show today. You pay a very small amount ($5 pre-registered, $10 at the door) and get in to a a huge trade show with jewelry, scarves, purses, perfume, etc. galore. And the prices are decent.

I’ve gone to this event the past three years! My fave coworker told me about it, so I went with blogger friends Tori and Diane the first year. Then last year with Erin and again with my mom and her mom later in the year.

Surely, I wouldn’t see anything I “needed” to buy this year, right?

Sigh.

At first I was like, “Meh, I don’t see anything I like… what a waste.” Then I got to a booth and spent forever there trying tons of things on and loading up a little basket. Oopsie. So really, I do hope my female family members and girlfriends don’t mind receiving jewelry from me… yet again.

I picked up the necklace in the photo above at that booth and threw it on for dinner. It’s so fun! I may or may have not picked up two of these necklaces. Hmm, should I put one on the blog for a giveaway?

How I spent Columbus Day…

By , October 9, 2012 6:23 am

I need your help figuring out exactly how pathetic I am.

So, I had a clothing avalanche* in my closet on July 12. I have 8 metal cube shelves to hold some items (example here) and two of the connectors came off. Everything fell on the floor, which already had stuff on it… and the connectors were lost. So how long did it take me to clean up this mess?

If you were guessing the amount of days between July 12 and October 8, then DING DING DING!, you guessed correctly!

I feel like I have bad juju with the walk-in closet gods now. Especially the personal walk-in closet gods. Sigh! What can I do to get on good terms again? Not be a slob? NOOOOO!!!!

Where do you store your clothes? Closet (your own?), dresser, on the floor?

I have my own closet and a dresser too. Yet, it never seems like enough space, and I am always donating to Goodwill. How does that work?!

Don’t worry! That is not how I spent my entire Columbus Day Holiday. I also went grocery shopping:

helped Steven with some FakeMeats.com photos, took an hour nap (shhh), met Anne for the first time (!!!) for a beautiful run,

and a had a Skype date with my New York peeps

Did anyone else have Columbus Day off?

*Sadly, there is no photo to document the avalanche.

Time for Tights

By , September 27, 2012 6:33 am

Or hose. Or nylons. Or whatever.

One of the reasons I’m happy I keep a blog – when I wake up with a headache, feel like crap, and don’t know what to wear, I can just look at old blog posts for ideas! The outfit I liked had tights in it. With it being in the 40s when I left my house, and a high in the low 60s, I thought, “Why not? It’s Tights Time!”

As I was putting on tights in my closet, still half asleep and out of it, I thought “I love tights!” and all the reasons why… Then I saw the ones I grabbed had a hole in them and thought, “Tights are a pain in the butt!” and all the reasons why… so here is my delirious, early am tights pro/con list:

Pros

  • prevent me from scratching bug bites
  • keep me warm
  • but you can take them off when they get too hot (if your legs are shaved?)
  • but you don’t have to shave your legs to wear them!
  • keeps my skirt from riding up (apparently, not the one I wore today)
  • the right color makes me look slimmer

  • they look sexy paired with boots

Cons

  • prevent me from wearing flip flops for the walk to the office

  • random holes in them

  • they don’t last very long
  • the wrong color makes me look like a little kid on Easter Sunday

  • they sometimes ride down throughout the day
  • might not keep my skirt from riding up

TBD

  • they may make wearing flats less painful (less rubbing on the back of the heel)

Anything to add/take off my lists?

Jeans Judgement Day 2012

By , September 18, 2012 6:45 am

It looks like Jeans Judgement Day* came at just about the same time as last year! And… dun dun dun… they fit! Phew!

It was so nice and cool during my run this am – in the mid 40s. I was chilly when I was done, so I stopped and got a chai latte then came home to a hot shower, and put on jeans, a long sleeved tee and socks after. SOCKS! I have only worn socks lately for running!

Tell me, what’s the most bundled up you’ve had to get lately?

And have you already had your Jeans Judgement Day*?

*This is the day I try my jeans on after not wearing them all summer and have to see if they still fit…

No pants

By , August 28, 2012 6:54 am

I haven’t worn pants to work since April.

Not like that, guys!!!

Don’t worry. I’m not going in to the office pants-less. I’ve just been wearing skirts and dresses. It started out with it being a comfort (weather) thing, then turned in to, “I haven’t worn pants in a long time and I am afraid to see if they fit,” sorta thing.

Ugh! What am I going to do come winter?!

That’s right. I’ll wear tights under my skirts and dresses. Muah ha ha. I will never have to wear pants (in to the office) again!

Seriously though, I kind of feel like I have a work uniform. And that seems a bit bizarre. But it definitely makes getting dressed before 5:00 am much easier.

Do any of you tend to wear something very similar every day of the week?

Today’s skirt, courtesy of Gina:

Kind of related (to my refusal to try my pants on) – in the beginning of July Erin emailed me a link to an orange dress from The Limited that was on sale for $25 (what the eff, now it is on sale for $17!!!). Since Erin taught me how to dress myself, and the dress was not that much money and it was ORANGE(!!!) I ordered it. It came a couple of weeks later and sat in my closet, in the bag for an entire month. An entire month! I did not try it on until last Sunday!

I had read the reviews of how it fit, ordered it in my size and wasn’t sure if it would work or not. But I decided to finally try it on Sunday night, thinking I may wear it to a wedding this Saturday.

Apologies for the crappy photo!

So it fits. And I feel like an idiot for having it sit in my closet for so long. I don’t wait that long to try on workout clothes when they come in the mail. I practically rip them out of their packaging, strip down and try them on in the kitchen.

What is the point of me posting this? I guess I am wondering – is anyone else afraid to try on their clothes?

More than I’m used to

By , June 11, 2012 1:43 pm

During lunch I went to Ulta to look for new eye shadow. Okay. Eye shadow, period. I usually don’t wear makeup.

Geesh. I had forgotten I even went there, until I went to the bathroom… and did not recognize myself.

Wearing more eye shadow could take some getting used to. I don’t look like me. Maybe that is a good thing? Muah ha ha.

How much effort do you put in to your facial appearance?

For me, it’s usually clear brow gel and mascara (when I go in to the office, if I am not, it’s no makeup).

Ponytail time

By , May 14, 2012 9:12 am

A coworker just told me that I should probably brush my hair before my meeting, as the back of it “looks all crazy like I just got out of bed.”

Ugh.

Why do I even try?*

Monday: 1, Kim: 0

*The sad thing is, I DID try to make my hair look nice this morning. Usually I don’t even brush it before I go to work. I need serious hair help! Let’s look on the bright side… only one more day IN the office this week. The rest are work from home.
