Random Thoughts Thursday 50

  • You my have seen this on my personal Facebook page, but I am just loving this sneak peek of my snister’s engagement pics (that she and her fiancé, Will, had taken last Saturday). I can’t wait to see the rest!

  • Do you say “I love you” to friends? In what form (“I love you,” “Love you,” etc) and how (text, email, Facebook, in person, message in a bottle)? This is something I have been wanting to write about for a few months, but it hasn’t happened. Maybe your comments will get me going. Or maybe the conversation in this post will be enough to satisfy me! Hee hee.
  • Would you rather sleep in, or get up early, and take a nap later? Or both (ha)? I feel soooo guilty whenever I sleep in (because it usually means I didn’t work out first thing in the am). Even though I often go to bed way too late to get up when I do. I much prefer an afternoon nap. (Interestingly (or not?) Data is the same way – he gets up with me, waits for me to run or whatever, then naps. Um, all day.)

Steven loves to take pictures of me when I nap. Ha ha.

  • Aww, I love my little Datums!!! Okay, maybe not so little.

  • There are two things I forgot to mention about the NFEC race that I loved! 1. Race Day packet pickup!!! Save me gas and time? Yes, please! and 2. The virtual goody bag. I love it when goody bags are virtual, because getting a bunch of random paper fliers and little samples annoys me. And the virtual goody bag had some cool stuff in it, like a free magazine subscription!
  • Speaking of the NFEC, I took their online survey about the race and this question showed up (below). I wasn’t sure which one to pick (you could only pick ONE!)! Which would you choose for what matters most for athletic apparel purchase – look, price, function or fit?

  • Darn, I had one other thing to say, but I forgot! Well, hopefully it won’t spark an entirely new post later today…
  • Updated to add: I remembered! I was going to say it was fun reading all the nicknames people have for me. Ha ha. I wasn’t expecting that!

  1. Declan says:

I… Love you? I actually almost say that to people by mistake on the phone, as most of my calls are to my wife and that’s what I always say.

I’d like to sleep in, but the definition of IN has changed a lot. I also know if I sleep in, I have to deal with the guilt of losing time with my family to work out/run, so I just get up early.

    Happy Friday Eve!

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha. One of Steven’s friends has a good story about accidentally saying that to a customer at work. Ha ha.

Exactly! I feel bad if I don’t have free time in the evening to hang with Steven, especially since I am gone on some weeknights already for class/teaching!

      Happy FRIDAY!!!

  2. ChezJulie says:

I often say “I love you” to my best friend at the end of our phone calls. (She lives in another state). I started doing this consciously when she was going through a divorce. I felt like it was really important that I let her know explicitly how much I cherish her. I guess I am less likely to say it to close friends who live here and I see more often.

I would love to get a virtual packet when I go to conferences. I get a bag full of crap that I just end up tossing in the hotel room… what a waste!

That survey question is funny. For workout apparel, I would say “look” and “fit” but it’s kind of hard to separate the two.

  3. Thank you for giving me something to occupy myself with while I wait for this iPhone update to finish. Geez, Louise, I might be late for work.

I tell very close friends that I love them but not even close friends or just friends. I am stingy with the phrase because I want it to mean something when I say it and not become like hello, goodbye, you are a hooker. Ya know?

If you want to see big, come try to hold Denali.

  4. bobbi says:

I used to be uncomfortable saying I love you to friends. As I get older, I find that it’s important to me to let people know I appreciate them in my life. So I let the love flow 🙂

But I really want a message in a bottle.

I like getting up early and napping later.

Can I adopt Data? Maybe be his crazy auntie?

That apparel question is HARD! (twss) Can I choose all of the above? I guess I would have to go with fit. If it doesn’t fit, nothing else matters…

    • bobbi says:

also, I randomly giggled when I noticed that you completely gave up on roman numerals after 37. you held on much longer than I would have 🙂

    • kilax says:

Duh! Of course you are his auntie! 🙂

I thought it was hard too. I was thinking the same thing about fit. But then if it also wasn’t functional, I wouldn’t get it either. duh

  5. I need a nap big time. It’s not going to happen, but I can always dream

  6. Anne says:

This is so weird, just yesterday I was randomly thinking that Bob and my parents are the only people I ever actually say “I love you” to! It’s not that I don’t love friends and other family members, but I rarely say it. Even though I used to all the time in high school and college. Hmm….

I’d rather just sleep in because any time I wake up early to do something and intend to take a nap later, I don’t nap. I suck at napping. I never even took them as a kid – I always thought I was missing out on something fun!

Awwww, Data! I wonder if the dogs would do a similar photo shoot with me.

    • kilax says:

Let me know how the photo shoot goes!

And you are NOT missing out on anything when you take a nap! 🙂 You are more likely to miss out on something later, from not being able to stay awake to do it. Ha!

  7. I like getting up early and then taking a nap later if need be. I usually don’t nap but try to get in bed by 10 pm. Funny about Data, Sonic is the same way. He gets up with me to run in the morning and then hops back in bed until I get back. I usually give him a treat before I leave so I think that’s his motivation :).

  8. J says:

I would rather get up early and then nap. I love naps.

I say I love you/love you to my friends a lot. I actually said it more in high school cause i went to an all girls school and we were all really close. I say I love you to my bff becca, she has started to say it back now. I said it to her in our marathon the first time. lol

  9. Marcia says:

The love thing is used sparingly, to preserve it’s impact. Haha!
Workout apparel MUST be functional above all else. If it chafes, who cares how cute it is?
Up early for me. Naps are always nice.

  10. I outwardly say I Love You to Sweets and to Gavin. I’m terrible about saying it to my parents, other family members and friends. I do write it from time to time, though “xoxo” or a big heart are what comes to mind first.

Also, after having a kid, I’m big into waking up early, napping when he naps and then staying up a bit later.

  11. Kim says:

I do say “love you” to close friends and family. I don’t think it weirds them out (or at least they’re still friends with me?).

Data is HUGE. Well, he just looks it there. Mosie is only 6lbs. I feel like Data would crush her.

I like getting up early and naps tend to leave me groggy (although they’re delicious) but sleeping in sometimes is SO fantastic.

    • kilax says:

He would crush her! He weighs 12 pounds! He is a really muscular, large breed, I guess (he’s not overweight!).

Yeah, they leave me groggy too, but I often feel more comfortable napping than when I am sleeping!

  12. Rachel says:

I say I love you to my friends, because I really do love them! (you included!) Kimmy and I say “Olive juice” a lot, cause it sounds like I love you. awwwww. 😉

I can’t remember what I checked off for that apparel question. Probably ‘Price’ cause I’m a cheapskate. But they have to fit too. And, you know, be good for running (like, not made of leather). I guess I care about look the least. I AM A SLOWSLOBINISTA!

I have never really been good at sleeping in, so I choose naps! Especially when cute kitties want to join me.

  13. Erin says:

Hmm, I guess I don’t say I love you to my friends very often! Not because I don’t love them, though. I guess because I just don’t say it very often in general? I should work on that!

I MUCH prefer to sleep in. If I nap I am out of it for HOURS so I’d rather just get all me sleep done at once. Doesn’t mean I don’t like naps. They just kill a huge chunk of my day when I take them.

And I’m with Bobbi that if workout clothes don’t fit then I don’t care about anything else.

  14. kelsey says:

I say I love you all the time to my friends! But I’m also a big hugger- and I don’t mean just a quick hug, I like a real hug. I really like hugging you because you give real hugs too! 🙂

  15. I am weird about certain things. Saying I love you is one of those things. I crave/hear/say it to my husband all the time. For some reason it weirds me out when my friends say it to me. I do love my friends but I have a hard time with that phrase for whatever reason in that situation. There is one friend in particular who says it to me all the time. I will reciprocate because I know that is what she needs in life (and I do mean it) I just don’t like to. I don’t know what that says about me, though.

I would much rather wake up early and take a nap. I feel so productive when I get up and get going. Today, for example, is a nap day. I was up at 4:30. When I am done reading blogs I am going to take a nap. One of the perks of my job is nap time!

  16. Dawn says:

I’m a middle-of-the-road…Not a super early riser, but not a super-late-sleeper-in either. Definitely an 8 hour girl, so if I’m short, there’s always a nap involved.

I totally agree on the race packet contents. Most gets trashed. And I, too, am with Bobbi…if it doesn’t fit right, then what’s the point. I’m willing to part with my hard earned $$ for a great pair of running shorts/shirt.

I’ve never really said “i love you’ very much. Not sure why. Just never uttered the phrase very often. That changed when my younger sister died unexpectedly, very quickly & at a young age (46). It made me reflect & wonder whether she KNEW that I loved her. It was a very humbling experience to say those words to her on her deathbed (not to be morbid, but just real). And, yes, as a sister, she probably knew I did, but I questioned whether that was enough? Shouldn’t I have said it out loud? more often? Her death made me cherish how fragile life is and how easily it can be taken away. And although I have made a conscious point to say “i love you’/’love you’, I am very selective in with whom I say it to. My parents. My sisters. My boys (16 1/2 & 15), who also say (sincerely) “i love you” back (my sister, by far being their closest Aunt). My boyfriend (who I actually view as my 2nd & final husband). (but sssshhhhh…don’t tell him that!) And, then just the other day, it popped out on the phone to my bestie….I was totally surprised when ‘love you’ came out, so unexpectedly but yet so naturally. What precipitated that, I wondered? Then I realized the people that I say ‘I love you/love you’ too are those who I let into my deepest core, my most inner being, my vulnerabilities. Apparently a very small audience! hmmmmm…is there a couch in my future?

    • kilax says:

LOL! Your secret is safe with me! 🙂 I don’t think you need the couch, your approach with “I love you” sounds completely perfect for you! 🙂

  17. I do say “I love you” to my best friends, and it’s not awkward at all to me. What’s funny to me is that Rich and my Dad say “Love you” on the phone now. HAHA

  18. I choose fit and function for the workout apparel question. I like things that fit me well the most. And I love napping! I’d rather get up earlier and nap, though sometimes it makes the earlier part of the day feel like a separate day, which I’m not always sure I love.

  19. Losinglindy says:

I had no idea Data was so big! Bogie is big like Data. Bogie won’t put his legs over my shoulder, he snuggles up. I love your snister’s shot!

  20. martymankins says:

Getting up early and getting stuff done, but having the nap option later in the day. I look forward to having a daily schedule where this is possible. For now, I get up early (some days, way too early) with rarely a nap.
